ESSAY ON INDEPENDENCE DAY

             

                      Independence Day

             A red-letter in the history of India is August 15, 1947 . India achieved her Independence on this day from British rule, after centuries of occupation. After a long struggle and countless sacrifices, India became free. Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru, the first Prime Minister of India, hoisted the National Tricolour Flag on the Red Fort. Thereafter , of August 15 is celebrated as Independence Day and is a national holiday.


             Celebration take place all over the country with great joy and pride. In Delhi, the capital of India, the day is especially significant . Here the celebration are very elaborate and the main attraction is the Red Fort. Extensive arrangements are made for the flag hoisting ceremony.

             On his arrival at 7:00am sharp the Prime Minister is greeted by High Commissioners , Ambassadors and foreign dignitaries. The Prime Minister then inspects a guard of honour and unfurls the National Tricolour Flag.

            This is done in slow motion and the National Anthem is sung, usually led by school children. In order to show respect at this solemn part of the ceremony, all stand still in perfect silence. It is then the privilege of the Prime Minister to address the people of the nation. His speech is broadcast on All India Radio and Also telecast for the convenience of T V viewers.

            Our great leaders like Mahatma Gandhi, Bhagat Singh and Rani of Jhansi are remembered for the many sacrifices and sufferings they had to undergo for our freedom. This day is also a reminder of our duties and responsibilities towards our nation.
